Enquiro's Golden Triangle
What do users look at when they look at the results in Google?
Enquiro carried out an eye tracking study to see what users looked at on the screen. They found that eyes stay within a zone they call the Golden Triangle. The eye starts at the upper left corner and scans the titles of the top two or three organic entries. 72% click on the first entry that matches their search.
The Golden Triangle is the area at upper where users pay the most attention in Google. From the Enquiro Eye Tracking Study (July, 2005), courtesy of Enquiro.com.
- A few web pages get lots of traffic.
- The vast majority of web pages get little traffic.
- There is no gradual transition or equal distribution. You get either nearly all the traffic in your category or you get crumbs.
